A Land of Heritage, Minerals & Community Strength

Formed on 15th November 2000, Jharkhand is rich in minerals, forests, and tribal heritage. With Ranchi as its capital, the state spans over 79,000 sq. km and comprises 24 districts. Home to diverse tribes like Santhal, Munda, and Ho, it has nearly 29% forest cover and is a major contributor to India’s mineral output. Agriculture, handicrafts, and forest produce from the backbone of rural livelihoods, while the co-operative sector plays a key role in empowering communities and promoting inclusive development.

About Jharkhand

Co-operative Movement & Rural Development

The Co-operative movement in India was initiated primarily to address the challenges of rural credit and agricultural financing. In Jharkhand, the movement began with the registration and organization of Rural Agricultural Credit Co-operative Societies following the enactment of the Co-operative Societies Act of 1904.

Since its inception, the co-operative sector has played a vital role in strengthening rural economies, empowering farmers, and promoting financial inclusion across the state. It continues to serve as a cornerstone for community-based development and sustainable growth.
